Clubs & Groups
We understand our students have a variety of interests, so we invite all students to learn more about the different clubs we have to offer. We’ve got something for everybody!
The Jennings Youth Involvement Team is a community service group at Jennings County Middle School. It gives middle school students the opportunity develop leadership skills as they participate in a variety of community service projects.
Some of the annual projects include the following:
- Christmas cheer baskets for the Jennings County Coordinating Council
- Helping out at the Special Olympics
- Dance for Riley Hospital for Children
- The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Walk
The team is made up of eight 7th-grade and eight 8th-grade students. Members are chosen through an application process and teacher recommendations. Once selected, members may serve for the two middle school years.
Science Club explores the laws of science and other interesting phenomenon through a new, hands-on project at each meeting. Guaranteed to be fun and informative.
Technology Club will focus on the history of and careers in technology. The club hosts guest speakers from local businesses and colleges. We also research different types of computer programs and learn new skills from one another.
We meet on the 4th Monday of each month from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. in Room 21. Snacks are provided.
The Panther Print is the Middle School newspaper. It is open to both 7th and 8th graders. We share the news about school teams, sports teams and events, special events, clubs, trivia questions, puzzles, music, and more. If you like to write, consider joining our staff. The meeting schedule for this club varies.
Will you outwit, outlast, and outread? Take on the challenge of reading some of the middle school Young Hoosier Book Award Nominees. Meet monthly to share and discuss your favorites. This club meets after school.
Drama is an after-school program for 7th and 8th graders. We produce three shows per year: one in the fall, a spring children’s theatre, and a May musical. Students audition for the opportunity to act or be a part of the stage crew to build and paint sets or work with lighting and sound equipment.
The JCMS Student Council is made up of seven 7th-grade students and seven 8th-grade students. We choose our student council members based on a completed application and favorable teacher recommendations. The student council helps with the following school-sponsored activities:
- Fundraising
- Veterans Day Program
- Red Ribbon Week
- Support Our Soldiers Campaign
- Student Handbook
- Teacher Appreciation Week
Do you like mathematics? Do you want to do fun activities, solve challenging math problems, and play games with other students? If you said “yes” to any of those questions, then the Math Club is right for you. This club meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m.
This student club focuses on community service and leadership. It is sponsored by North Vernon Kiwanis and JCHS Key Club. The group meets twice a month to develop leadership skills and plan and carry out service projects. Some of the activities have included the following:
- Trick-or-treating for canned goods
- Relay for Life
- United Way Day of Caring
- Random Acts of Kindness at JCMS
- Fundraisers to benefit various organizations
Projects vary each year by community need and student interest. For more information on Builders Club, check out the International website.
The JC Fiddle Club is open to all string students in grades 7–12. Fiddle Club focuses on playing bluegrass, caelhi, and other forms of traditional fiddle music. The club meets 7–8:15 p.m., every Monday in the JCMS orchestra room. New members should buy a set of fiddle books from Mr. Pfifer for $24.
SCF students gather to learn and discuss topics surrounding Christianity. During our meeting times, we have discussions, hold chat time, listen to music, volunteer at various activities, and let’s not forget—eat. We also do acts of service and other fun activities throughout the year. SCF meets from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month in room 147.
This club meets once a month to play some of your favorite card games. You can bring your own games or play what others have.
Lego Club meets once a month to build, create, and play with Legos! What can you build?
